Common problems and how to fix them
Pop-ups asking you to renew or scan, repeatedly
Most are from the product itself rather than malware. Open Settings, then General and Alerts, and turn off promotional notifications. If the prompts appear in a browser tab instead of the app, treat them as a scam page — genuine McAfee alerts do not arrive that way.
The VPN stopped working
Check whether auto-renewal is still enabled in your McAfee account, because the VPN entitlement depends on it. If it is on and the VPN still fails to connect, sign out and back in on the device, then try a different server location — corporate and some public networks block VPN protocols outright.
McAfee will not uninstall cleanly
Run the McAfee Consumer Product Removal tool (MCPR) after the standard uninstall, then restart. This is also the fix when a new antivirus reports that another security product is still present.
