Overview

LiveSafe is the McAfee plan built around device count: instead of five slots, it covers every device in one household. For a family with several phones, tablets, a couple of laptops and a desktop, that is the whole fleet on one subscription.

The extras over Total Protection are True Key and encrypted file storage on Windows — a locked container for documents you would not want read if a laptop was stolen. Be aware McAfee has been consolidating its consumer line-up, so compare what today's plans actually include before assuming the old tier names still map cleanly.

Who the McAfee LiveSafe is for

Households with more devices than a five-slot plan can cover, who also want encrypted local storage for sensitive documents.

Common problems and how to fix them

A new device will not activate under the licence

Sign in to your McAfee account on the device rather than using a product key. Unlimited plans allocate protection through the account, so an activation that asks for a key usually means you are installing the wrong product edition.

True Key will not unlock

True Key uses your master password plus a second factor — often the trusted device itself. Losing all trusted devices at once is unrecoverable by design, so add a second factor such as email verification while you still have access.

Scans slow the machine to a crawl

Schedule full scans overnight and leave real-time protection to handle day-to-day work. On older mechanical hard drives a full scan is genuinely I/O-bound and there is no setting that removes that; scheduling around it is the fix.

Frequently asked questions

Does unlimited really mean unlimited?

It covers the personal devices of one household. It is not intended for business fleets or for sharing outside the home.

What does LiveSafe add over Total Protection?

Unlimited device coverage and encrypted storage for files on Windows, alongside the same core protection.

Is a VPN included?

Yes, on the same terms as other McAfee plans — the entitlement requires auto-renewal to remain switched on.
