Overview

Avast Premium Security's headline is device count: a single multi-device licence covers up to ten, which is unusual value for a household with several people in it. Protection includes the parts most free products hold back — firewall, ransomware shield, Real Site DNS protection and a sandbox for opening files you are unsure about.

Wi-Fi Inspector is the feature people end up using most. It scans your home network for devices with weak passwords, open ports or unpatched firmware, which is where most home security problems actually live these days.

Who the Avast Premium Security is for

Larger households or anyone with many devices who wants one licence to cover them all, including a sandbox and network scanning.

Common problems and how to fix them

Browser or app fails to connect after installing Avast

The HTTPS scanning feature can conflict with certain applications. Open Settings, Protection, Core Shields, and turn off Enable HTTPS scanning to test. If that resolves it, add the specific app as an exception and turn scanning back on rather than leaving it off.

Persistent upgrade prompts

Under Settings, General, Notifications, switch off offers and promotions. Ignore any renewal warning that arrives by email or appears in a browser tab — Avast phishing that imitates renewal notices is common.

Uninstall leaves the machine in a bad state

Run the official Avast Clear utility in Safe Mode. Standard removal frequently leaves network drivers behind, which shows up as no internet connection or a replacement antivirus refusing to install.

Frequently asked questions

How many devices does Avast Premium Security cover?

The multi-device licence covers up to ten, across Windows, macOS, Android and iOS.

Does it include a VPN?

No. Avast SecureLine VPN is a separate product, or you can move up to Avast One, which bundles it.

What is the sandbox for?

It runs a suspicious program in isolation so it cannot touch your real files or settings — useful for testing a download you are not sure about.
